The Leather Craft Cluster of Laxmangarh in the Sikar district of Rajasthan represents a rich legacy of traditional craftsmanship rooted in the cultural heritage of the region. Known for its vibrant artisan communities and skilled handmade industries, Sikar has long been a center of traditional crafts and entrepreneurship in Rajasthan. The leather artisans of Laxmangarh are especially recognized for their intricate hand-crafted leather products that blend utility with heritage design aesthetics.
S.M Foundation has established a Common Facility Center (CFC) for more than 350+ artisans under the SFURTI Scheme of the Government of India and Ministry of MSME. The center has been developed to strengthen the leather craft ecosystem by providing artisans access to modern as well as traditional machinery, enabling improved production quality, efficiency, and innovation while preserving traditional craftsmanship techniques.
The Foundation regularly conducts skill development trainings, design intervention workshops, community mobilization and awareness programs to empower artisan families and enhance livelihood opportunities. In collaboration with premier design institutes such as NIFT and NID, multiple product design and development workshops have been organized to introduce contemporary designs, improve market adaptability, and promote sustainable craft-based entrepreneurship.
The cluster specializes in handcrafted leather jutties, bags, wallets, keychains, and lifestyle accessories that reflect the craftsmanship and cultural identity of Rajasthan. Through this initiative, S.M Foundation aims to preserve traditional leather artistry, strengthen artisan livelihoods, and create sustainable market opportunities for rural craft communities.
